Analysis Of Dante s The Of Hell - 1573 Words
Jacob Barnett Essay#2 Reid Title I think Danteââ¬â¢s description of Hell is a wonderful work of literature. Dante uses numerous literary techniques to describe his envisionment of Hell to the reader. In my opinion, one of the most affective techniques used by Dante is symbolism. It would be a very difficult task to compile a brief list of significant symbols from the Cantos that we read in class. Dante utilized many symbols throughout each canto. Some of the symbols that Dante used in Inferno are well defined and easy to interpret, while other symbols are much more difficult to recognize and understand. For this paper, I will be analyzing multiple symbols from Danteââ¬â¢s Inferno. Some of the symbols came from the Cantoââ¬â¢s that were included in class readings while others were depicted throughout the Cantoââ¬â¢s that were not assigned readings. I found that one of the major symbols that reoccurred throughout the poem is the idea of a continuing journey. This was depicted in the very first line of the poem when Dante s life was compared to a road or pathway which Dante is halfway through. The specificity of the piece noting that Dante is ââ¬Å"halfway throughâ⬠further emphasizes the symbolism of continuing a journey by out rightly stating that he has begun but not yet finished. Therefore, when Dante strays from the intended path in the beginning of the first Canto he has symbolically ââ¬Å"strayed from the right kind of lifeâ⬠. Food and Beverages Management The Australias Economy
Question: Discuss about the Food and Beverages Management for The Australias Economy. Answer: Introduction: As mentioned by Mok et al. (2013), the Australias economy and the social life are very much dominated and consists of a numbers of restaurants, fine dining restaurants, cafes and different other hospitality service providers. A major and critical part of the visitor economy mainly consists of the hospitality services and it contributes about $134 billion to the Australian economy each year (Buhalis, and Crotts 2013). The restaurant industry of Australia mainly runs on a scale of small business except for a few fine dining restaurants and big hotels (Brotherton 2012). In a survey recently it was revealed that in Australia there are even more than 33,000 hospitality organizations, out of which about 76% are small business, that contribute over $21.1 billion to the Australian economy annually and provide about 666,300 out of the total job in the country (McManus, 2013). However, the interest and the opening of new restaurants by the restaurant operators for business transactions are being protected by the Australian competition policy. As most of these restaurant businesses are on small scale therefore, the level of competition in this business sector is very high (Yen and Teng 2013). Figure 1: Total food and beverages industry of Australia. (Source: Thornton 2016) Scope of the business: Name and the objectives of the business: The business concept of the hospitality service industry that has been chosen to be set up is a fine dining restaurant with the name of The Global Fantasy Restaurant. The main objective of any restaurant is however, profit generation (Han 2016). Apart from this the other main objectives of this business sector are: Profitability: For almost all the organization the generation of profit is the first most objective. Therefore, for the sector of restaurant and services also the main aim is to earn profit. As stated by Su et al. (2013) the more costing that incur in the restaurant are due to the food and the labour cost. The aim of any business is to keep the incurring costs as low as possible that too without making any compromise with the quality of the foods and service provided (Menp and Brandt 2016). The less would be the incurred cost, the more would be the profit level for the restaurant. This would therefore, help the company in the process of profit maximization (Wellton et al. 2016). Food: As stated by Chen and Elston (2013), after the maximization of the profit, according to Ko (2013), the next objective that requires fulfilment is the providing the customers with the best and the high quality level of food that would be served. The variety of foods that the restaurant would serve depends on the type of its joint (DiPietro and Gregory 2012). As this is a fine dining restaurant of high quality services, therefore, the menu of the food and the food quality requires being the best. However, the restaurant must create dishes and organise its price according what the customers are ready to pay in return (Namkung and Jang 2014). Dining experience: As mentioned by Gehrels (2013), the dining experience accounts for the total experience of the customers that he gains within the time that he spend in the restaurants. People do not only go to restaurant just for food, the ambience and other reasons such as relaxation, convenience and luxury is also a few things that are considered. This being a fine dining restaurant needs to fulfil the objective of providing its customers a complete high level dining experience (Frost et al. 2014). Longevity: With all the other objectives, also comes the objective of longevity. If the restaurant achieves all the other goals mentioned above, it will obviously achieve this objective. If a restaurant provides good food, make its customer happy with its services, earn profit and builds reputation then it will survive better and longer in the market (Jeong 2014). Mission statement of the business: The main mission for The Global Fantasy Restaurant is To sell appetizing and remarkable food and drinks to its customers. Oedipus Rex Essays (522 words) - Oedipus The King, Operas, Oedipus
Oedipus Rex Oedipus began Oedipus Rex as a king, only to end the tale as a blinded beggar. Oedipus' fall from his kingly status was not by accident or because of some other person. Oedipus is the only one that can be blamed for his misfortune. Oedipus' character traits are shown most clearly during his spiralling downfall, thinking he is "a simple man, who knows nothing", yet knowing more than he realizes by the end of the story. Throughout the story, Oedipus' haste or lack of patience is most evident. Wishing to end this mystery of the death of Laios as quickly as possible, Oedipus passes an edict to kill or exile anyone who withholds information. Teiresias tested Oedipus' patience in the beginning of the story with the information he was holding; "You'd try a stone's patience! Out with it.". This impatient accusing of Teiresias proved to be bad, especially since Teiresias foretold the ending of the story. If Oedipus had been more patient and waited, he might have not been quite so upset about the future, nor shaken up about what was to happen. However, that one trait did not alone take away his position of high authority. Oedipus displayed anger throughout the whole story, which did not help him at all. During the story, we learn of Oedipus' anger as he knocked a passerby at the meeting of the three highways; "I struck him in my rage". Later, this passerby whom he angrily and quickly killed, was revealed to be Laios, Oedipus' father. Oedipus' anger also quickly shifted his judgement of Teiresias. "We are in your[Teiresias] hands. There is no fairer duty", Oedipus' respect for Teiresias quickly changed as Teiresias refused to tell of what was the trouble's cause. Oedipus began claiming that "Creon has brought this decrepit fortune teller" to mean that Teiresias was thought of as a traitor in Oedipus' thinking. Oedipus' anger is also shown as he begins to insult Teiresias by calling him a "wicked old man". Oedipus' anger throughout the beginning of the play hindered himself. The final trait that was Oedipus' greatest enemy throughout the entirity of the play was his own truthfulness. Whenever new facts presented themselves, Oedipus gave them an honest look. As soon as it was suspect that Oedipus was involved, he acknowledged it; "I think that I myself may be accurst by my own ignorant edict". Oedipus never held back any evidence pointing to his possible future eviction and loss of his kingly status. As the plot grew to the uppermost point, Oedipus persisted testimony of the shepherd as he was "of dreadful hearing, yet he must hear" more. This trait was the binding trait that brought Oedipus' downfall. If Oedipus hid all the facts concerning himself, he could have easily buried this as nobody would know that he killed his father nor slept with his mother. The decline of Oedipus' was started by himself. His traits of anger, haste, and truthfulness, each helped accelerate his decline of power. Unfortuanately, for Oedipus, this decline of power led to the plucking of his own eyes. "Oedipus, noblest of all the line of Kadmos, have condemned myself to enjoy these things no more, by my own malediction, expelling that man whom the gods declared to be a defilement in the house of Laios."

Thomas Paines Effect on the Revolutionary War essays
Thomas Paine's Effect on the Revolutionary War essays Topic: The Effect of Thomas Paine On The American Revolution The American Revolution was one of the most profound accomplishments in American history, if not world history. One of the largest military forces in the world at the time was defeated by a very small portion of its community in a fight for that portions freedom, and independence. Many Americans played a large role in that struggle, some being military, others being politicians. Many people look over a third significant group of people that assisted in the Revolution, the political idealists and writers of the time. Two battles were fought during the time of the Revolution, a battle against Great Britain; as well as a battle to gain the assistance of our neighbors. Political writers, such as Thomas Paine, played a very large role in gaining the support needed by the American people. Thomas Paines work was one of the greatest written influences on the Revolutionary War. His two most pronounced pieces may have been The Crisis, and Common Sense. Although The Crisis did not sell as many copies as Common Sense, it did stir a very large amount of will and the heart to fight amongst those who were able and willing that won this war. The Crisis opens up with the words These are the times that try mens souls. Of course referring to the time that they were living in, the time of the revolution, it is a very strong opening statement to grab the attention of the readers, and that is exactly what he needed to do. Washington, upon reading it, ordered all of his troops to do so as well, as to stir up emotion, and the drive to succeed that they had known in the beginning years of the war. In the very beginning of the paper he makes reference to the summer soldier and the sunshine patriot. Both of these titles are referring to the same peoples; those who fight only when it loo ks as though they are wining, and those who will only show thei...

In response to the Needle stick Safety act establishment, OSHA in 2001 revised the Blood Borne pathogens Standard in order to comply with the act. Another campaign was initiated by National alliance for Primary Prevention of Sharps Injuries (NAPPSI) to protect medical providers and medical interns from accidental injuries that occurred in the course of their duty. The campaign focused on educating workers and interns on the prevention of all avoidable risks from sharp objects at work. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was established in 1970 by congress in the U.S.'s department of labor. The mission of this body was to protect employees from workplace injuries, illness or deaths (Rabinowitz, 2002). This regulatory body uses rules enforceable by the law and these rules are referred to as standards. The Revised OSHA's Blood Borne Standard Research has shown that many healthcare service providers who have been exposed to blood borne pathogens have been infected with deadly and other dangerous viruses and disease conditions. Contraction of the diseases is usually through needle stick injuries i.e. wounds that are caused needles if they accidentally puncture the skin (Carter 2007). The most serious problems are the infections from the deadly viruses namely Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C viruses. Conformity with the new Blood borne standard has notably decreased risk of medical service providers to contract blood borne diseases at work. Still the problem of health workers contracting blood borne diseased from sharp tools accidents continues to be a serious problem. Centre for Disease Control and Prevention estimated that over 380 000 injuries were recorded, Most them being contaminated. Since the establishment of the Blood borne Pathogens Standard, most concerned parties have responded pos itively and have taken steps towards reducing health hazards (Carter 2007). One of the requirements was an OSHA's request for Information on engineering and work performance controls that would be used to alleviate risk of exposure (Mason et al, 2002). Recommendations were made available to health care providers, organizations representing medical care workers, researchers, education institutions, expert and industry associations, and medical devices manufacturers. The use of safer medical apparatus such as non invasive systems and sharp instruments with modified protectors to

Is it better for companies to have too much data or too little data Essay
Is it better for companies to have too much data or too little data Why - Essay Example The data of an organization includes all sort of information that is recorded either in paper or in computer system. The business activity is mainly depended on data and information. Documentary evidence is required for most of the important activities in a business. The size of the data requirement of an organization increases by the increase in the size of the business. ââ¬Å"Every process uses data and almost all business rules are enforced by dataâ⬠(B2T training, 2008). The rules, regulations and limitations of the business are always made in a document form. Documentary evidence is required for every activity of the business. When any relevant data is lost in the business certain activities get interrupted. This is harmful for the day to day working of the business. Therefore data maintenance is a very critical activity in a business. The data requirements of a business also differ by difference in the nature of the business being carried on by it. For example in the case of an insurance company the relationship between the company and the client is evident only from the document that is agreed upon by the client and the company. Therefore, in a large business entity data management is a separate specialized activity. The data that are used in the company are both external and internal. ââ¬Å"Once internal data is understood, a detailed review of available external vendor data should be conductedâ⬠(Lucker, 2005). What the companies should focus on while maintaining data is that only relevant data should be maintained. Relevant data refers to the data that are required for the daily running of the business and the data that has to be maintained by the company as per the statute. But the question under discussion is that whether the companies should maintain too much or too little data. Too much data is both beneficial as well as harmful for the organization. Too much data will contain
